I had built up a friendship with Rich (project leader) over the course of a year through a church in Newquay. Hearing updates on activities that The Street were running, it appeared refreshing for an organisation to actually serve the young people wholeheartedly.
My next involvement with the project was through a series of training days run by The Street where youth workers could be trained up in practical skills. Again it seemed greatly in touch with the community and served those who attended really well.
Next an opportunity to work for The project arose and i jumped at it. It was a great time of experiencing a different side to youth work as i was soon getting alongside young guys to build, construct and dig our way to improving a field to serve them best. Much of the youth work which is available today is just advising young people how to do things better. What The Street offer is a way for people to gain skills, a healthy work ethic and doing so in a great environment.
After a 2 month period of work had to stop working for The Street due to financial constraints. It seemed a dire shame that an organisation with so much vision and practical application in society should be restricted by finance.
Either way, the Street is there to help young people be ready for life and so will have my full support.
